Free write about what you are feeling and where you feel it in your body. Don’t worry about grammar or coming up with a solution to feeling better. Just write and don’t stop writing for at least five minutes.
How would your best friend talk to you about the trigger that is causing difficult emotions for you? What would they say?
If you were your best coach, what would you say to yourself right now?
We all have an inner child inside of us that needs to be nurtured from time to time. Write as if you were nurturing your child and supporting she / he to move through the difficult emotions.
Have a dialogue with your inner child. Write supportive thoughts and hear what he / she has to say in response. Then write a response to that. Go back and forth as long as you need.
Underneath your difficult emotions, what emotion are you trying to avoid? Why? Are you afraid of something? Is shame coming up for you? Remember to be gentle and honest with yourself in this exploration
What are three things that you can do in the next hour that would feel soothing to you?
Who could you talk to about what you are experiencing? Is there anything that is stopping you from reaching out for help? Remember that people deeply appreciate it when others are real and vulnerable with them.
